wedding planningIt is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, but 60% of couples say they fell out with friends and family over their wedding plans.

wedding planningPressure to keep relatives happy is the biggest cause of pre-matrimonial tension, with 38% of couples falling out over their families, a survey claims. Another cause of arguments is the guest list, with a third of couples arguing about who should and who shouldn't be invited.

A quarter of couples argued over the budget, the study by Mercure hotels revealed, and 23 per cent of brides admitted falling out with their mothers in the run-up to the big day.

One in six people said they had a major bust-up with their partners over the wedding plans.

A fifth of the 1,000 UK couples surveyed suffered with sleepless nights and 11 per cent said planning for their wedding had affected their health.

Mercure hotels, who polled 1,000 UK couples, said: "Planning can take 700 hours. It's no wonder there are rows."
