 Bill Clinton, the former US president who famously campaigned on the catch phrase ‘It’s the economy, stupid’, will find his own extravagant earnings taking a bit of a hit this weekend.He will be giving away his 30-year-old daughter Chelsea to her Wall Street financier fiancé Marc Mezvinsky, 32. It is also going to be one of America’s most secretive receptions. Chelsea Clinton is expected to splash out £2million on her wedding. T  he guest list, including Tony Blair, Steven Spielberg, Sting and Barbra Streisand, have even been kept in the dark about Saturday’s venue.The estimated 400 wedding invites said only that the event would be held within two-and-a-half hours of Manhattan. And guests were asked for their credit card details, and preferred price range, by organisers who promised to sort out their accommodation for them. The gift-list register was in fake names. It did not reveal the presents were really for the happy, and clearly very lucky, couple. But details about the super-bash are beginning to come out. It looks likely to take place on the 50-acre New York State grounds of Astor Courts and in the shadow of the estate’s £7.7million Versailles-inspired mansion. Air-conditioned tents reportedly costing £385,000 and expansive £10,000 mobile toilets can also be seen at the site. Monica Lewinsky, of course, is not on the guest-list. |
