Wedding Magazine - Honeymoon Destinations
EgyptThere is something very sophisticated about Egypt. Perhaps it is because it is a fabled land of ancient wonders. Egypt is not just a honeymoon destination it is a honeymoon world of perpetual sunshine! There is absolutely everything here for you to do – some would say too much to do. From desert landscapes and dry, rugged mountains that reach to the sea, dusty cities full of exotic sounds and smells Egypt promises an unforgettable experience of history and relaxation - a mixture of discovery and pleasure.
The lifeblood of Egypt is of course The Nile. This exceptional length of river shares its secrets with white-sided feluccas and modern cruise ships. It is inside the area of ancient Egypt that you can witness the staggering wealth of archaic treasures including the last remaining wonder of the ancient world – The Pyramids.

Luxor and Cairo are the places to have the Pharaohs experience. Luxor is built on the ruins of Thebes – the ancient capital. There are some incredible remnants of that bygone age it is a living museum. Cairo is a vibrant, colourful and somewhat chaotic, bustling capital, here the past and present merge in an interesting dance. The Markets are full of interest and fabulous smells, as with much of this part of the world – do not forget to barter. This part of ancient Egypt is truly fascinating for any traveller, but I think that as a honeymoon destination, Luxor and Cairo are better enjoyed in a short dose, as the romantic element of a honeymoon could be lost if too much time were spent on such excursions.

So if you would just like to sample ancient Egypt rather than have the full experience, why not have a day trip to Luxor and/or Cairo or a 2 day Nile cruise booked from your base at one of the various resorts. Also available are various desert experiences, whether on the back of a camel to Mount Sinai or on a jeep safari to the inner oasis.

The Red Sea Riviera
The radiant Red Sea is renowned for its beautiful beaches, sensational seas and wonderful water sports. This unique stretch of water provides a fertile playground for stunning sea life and is renowned the world over for it superb scuba diving. Experience the one in a lifetime activity of swimming with dolphins.

Back on shore the unceasing sunshine provides honeymooners with the ideal setting to sit back with and ice cold drink, amongst the elegant palm trees. Explore the surrounding area and find the little cafes.

In the evenings choose from the peaceful atmosphere of candle-lit restaurants in EL Gouna, or live it up in the cosmopolitan principle resort of Sharm El Sheik,

Words of Wisdom
Egypt is a conservative society. Visitors should dress modestly, and when visiting traditional areas like mosques and souqs (markets) women’s clothes should cover their legs and upper arms. Honeymooners should go easy on public displays of affection when amongst Egyptians as this is frowned upon. Religious customs should be respected, particularly during the month of Ramadan when eating, drinking and smoking during daylight hours should be discreet as it is forbidden by the Muslim culture.

Arabic is the official language although English and French are widely spoken, especially in the tourist areas.

Tipping is known as ‘baksheesh’ and some small change is expected for most services. A service charge is added to most restaurant and hotel bills but a 5% tip is normally given directly to the waiter. Taxi drivers are tipped about 10%.
